Privacy Policy

How SynecScan handles information on Android and iOS. Effective 17 July 2026.

App: SynecScan (Android package com.synecscan.synecscan, iOS bundle com.synecscan.synecscan)
Publisher / Data controller: Synectix LTD
Contact: developer@synectix-ltd.com
Effective date: 17 July 2026  ·  Last updated: 17 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how SynecScan (“we”, “our”, “the app”) handles information when you use our mobile document scanner on Android or iOS. Please read it carefully — if you do not agree with it, please do not install or use the app.

1. Summary (TL;DR)

  • We do not operate a backend server. Scanning, OCR, offline translation, PDF/DOCX generation and file management all happen on your device.
  • We do not require an account. There is no sign-up, login, or user profile.
  • We do not collect your scanned documents. Documents, images, and extracted text stay on your device unless you deliberately share them via the operating system’s share sheet.
  • We use a small number of third-party services for advertising (Google AdMob), in-app purchases (Google Play Billing / Apple StoreKit), crash diagnostics (Sentry, production only), and — only when you translate into Azerbaijani — Google Cloud Translation.
  • You are in control. You can delete any document at any time. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.

2. Information processed on your device

The following information is stored locally on your device (in the app’s private sandbox) and is not transmitted to us or to any third party unless a specific section below says otherwise:

DataWhereWhy
Scanned images, generated PDFs, exported DOCX filesApp documents directoryCore scanning feature
Document metadata (title, page count, size, timestamps, source/target language, favourite flag)Local SQLite database (Drift)Library, search, sort
OCR text extracted from your scansLocal SQLite database (Drift)Search inside documents, translation
Folders and tags you createLocal SQLite database (Drift)Organisation
App preferences (theme, language, onboarding state)SharedPreferences / NSUserDefaultsUX settings
Premium purchase stateSharedPreferencesAd-gate bypass for paying users
Temporary files created during exportSystem temporary directoryCleared after use

Uninstalling the app removes all of the above.

3. Third-party services and data sent off-device

3.1 Google AdMob (advertising)
  • Purpose: SynecScan is free to use. Non-premium users see a rewarded advertisement before exporting or sharing a document. We also show banner, native and app-open ads in the app.
  • Data processed by Google: device advertising identifier (Google Advertising ID on Android; IDFA on iOS if you grant App Tracking Transparency), IP address, coarse device information, ad interactions, and — in the EEA / UK / Switzerland — the consent choices you make in the Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent form.
  • Provider policy: policies.google.com/privacy and AdMob data disclosure.
  • Your controls:
    • EEA / UK / Switzerland: A UMP consent form appears on first launch and can be reopened from Settings. You may refuse personalised advertising.
    • iOS: You can decline App Tracking Transparency; ads will still be shown but will not be personalised.
    • Android: You can reset or delete your advertising ID in the system Google settings.
    • Purchase Premium: Removes all ads and skips the ad gate entirely.
3.2 Google Play Billing (Android) / Apple StoreKit (iOS)
  • Purpose: Processing the one-time “Premium” purchase.
  • Data processed: Purchase token / transaction receipt exchanged between your device and the respective store. We do not receive your name, email, or payment method — only a purchase-verified flag stored locally.
  • Provider policies: Google and Apple.
3.3 Sentry (crash diagnostics — production builds only)
  • Purpose: Detecting and fixing crashes and unhandled errors so the app remains stable.
  • Data processed: Exception messages, stack traces, non-personal breadcrumbs (e.g. “user opened preview screen”), platform and app version information.
  • What we deliberately do NOT send: screenshots (attachScreenshot: false), default personally-identifiable information such as IP address or username (sendDefaultPii: false), or the content of your scanned documents.
  • Provider policy: sentry.io/privacy.
3.4 Google Cloud Translation (only when translating to or from Azerbaijani)
  • Purpose: SynecScan performs on-device translation via Google ML Kit for all supported language pairs except Azerbaijani, which is not available in ML Kit. When you translate to or from Azerbaijani, the source text is sent to the Google Cloud Translation API to obtain the translation.
  • Data sent: the text you asked to translate. Nothing else — no metadata, no identifiers, no document title, no image.
  • When it happens: only when you actively request an Azerbaijani translation. All other language pairs are processed fully offline.
  • Provider policy: cloud.google.com/translate/data-usage.
3.5 Google Fonts (typography)
  • Purpose: The app uses the google_fonts package, which may download font files at runtime the first time a font is used. Fonts are cached on device thereafter.
  • Data processed by Google: standard HTTP request metadata (IP address, user-agent) required to serve the font file.
  • Provider policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
3.6 On-device processing (no data leaves your device)
  • OCR: Google ML Kit Text Recognition runs entirely on-device.
  • Language identification: Google ML Kit Language ID runs entirely on-device.
  • Offline translation: Google ML Kit Translation models are downloaded once per language pair and then run on-device.

4. Permissions we request

We ask for these permissions only when the corresponding feature is used, and we show a short rationale explaining why. Denying a permission does not stop you from using unrelated features.

6. Analytics

At the time of this policy’s effective date, SynecScan does not send product analytics events to any third party. The app contains an internal analytics interface (NoopAnalyticsService) that discards every event locally. If we ever enable a real analytics backend, this policy will be updated and, where consent is required, we will ask for it.

7. Children’s privacy

SynecScan is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EEA, or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Because we do not require an account and do not collect names or ages, we rely on the store’s parental-control mechanisms (Google Family Link, Apple Family Sharing) to filter age-inappropriate installs.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), and similar regulations:

  • Right to access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification of inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”).
  • Right to restrict or object to processing.
  • Right to data portability.
  • Right to withdraw consent for advertising personalisation (via UMP / ATT).
  • Right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Because SynecScan does not create an account for you and does not store scanned documents on our servers, we typically do not hold personal data about you. Documents and metadata you generate are yours and reside on your device. You can exercise the “right to erasure” yourself by deleting documents in the app or uninstalling the app.

For third-party services (Google AdMob, Sentry, Google Cloud Translation, the App stores), please contact those providers directly to exercise your rights against their processing.

For any question, request or complaint that concerns SynecScan directly, contact us at developer@synectix-ltd.com. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Data retention

  • Documents, folders, tags, OCR text, preferences: kept until you delete them or uninstall the app.
  • Temporary export files: deleted immediately after export.
  • Crash reports (Sentry): retained by Sentry per their default retention (typically 30–90 days).
  • Advertising identifiers: managed by the operating system, not by us.
  • Purchase state: kept locally until you uninstall.

10. International data transfers

The third-party services listed in section 3 are provided by companies based in the United States and may process your data outside your country of residence. These providers use standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards to protect international data transfers. See each provider’s privacy policy for details.

11. Security

We follow reasonable technical measures to protect your data:

  • App-sandboxed storage (both Android and iOS isolate app data from other apps).
  • HTTPS/TLS for all third-party API calls (translation, crash reports, ads, in-app purchases).
  • No cloud backup enabled by default — your scans do not leave your device unless you explicitly share them.
  • API keys required for third-party services are injected at build time and are not accessible to other apps.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. In the unlikely event of a breach that affects your rights, we will notify affected users and the competent authorities where required by law.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app, in the law, or in our third-party providers. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you inside the app before the change takes effect.
